This sounds like a good question for Greek.
Basically a DDOS is such a problem due to the volume of incoming data and where its coming from. In today’s ograganized DDOS attacks there are often tens of thousands of zombie machines involved in the attack and its coming in from virutally every direction.
In the old days we had DOS attacks not Distributed DOS attacks so it was a matter of blocking an IP or IP range in order to blunt an attack, now that is not an effective response.
An Ddos attack or can be known as Dos attack (Distribution Denial of Service) can compromise or shutdown a PC or a network.
In the case of a network often its the router that is explioted. The system overloads by excessive bandwidth being stolen. A router which lots of people have no choice but use them, handles the traffic of the network.
In very simple terms the network is pinged at such a rate it can’t handle it and shuts down. Case in point remember the Yahoo crash this attack is the same thing.
There are various forms of attacks, such as, nuke, ICMP ect.. I will try and keep it simple.
So here are some possible solutions:
1. Change the IP address update the new IP on a internal DNS server.
2. Some filtering techniques may help such as look for a common thread in the attacks and deny access
3. Increase bandwidth of your server let the attacks keep coming find the common thread then deny access
This is a huge topic. With the limited info you provided theses are the possible solutions.
I would need to know the DB info, router info, ect…

Someone out there told me that is very odd to a little website to suffer this kind of attack due the high costs involved in.
Is that exact ?not quite sure what your asking?
Some people say that only very huge sites are often under Ddos.
This due the hich costs involved to run a Ddos attack.
Is that right?The high cost of running a Ddos attack from a malious hacker is zero.
We are all sit in very fragile chairs…
Hope thare are some companies giving the services to prevent or something.
If a big site like stormpay was one week down, I can not image the damage in a little site.

Is that right?Well isn’t it because in the past like when the sportsbooks were hit they were demanding money to stop the attack. Maybe what you heard was just that they go after companies they think might pay out..
