InactiveInteresting question. I am entirely text link oriented too so responses will be interesting to me also.
However, way back when i started (18 months) my research indicated to me that it’s largely to do with the target market. Americans seem to go for banners, Brits for less ad-focused stuff. Assume its still the case? And what to Europe i wonder?
Cheers

InactiveMy personal choice is always less “mess”. A tastefully placed banner here or there is ok, but too many make a sight seem confusing and uninviting to me. I also get the feeling that more banners = less creative content and I want to get the feeling that I am gaining some information rather than just having a barage of sales pitches hurled at me via a banner farm.

InactiveClick through ratios ?? 40%-50% ?? Really !!
Are you measuring this as clicks / impressions.Because to get there your targets must really have nearly all wanted what ever it was you’re selling. Well done.
sigh.gifMy click through ratios are awful … usually around 0.10% to 0.25% (that’s around a quart of 1%). Mind you – I’ve racked them and stacked them (120×60 size) alongside content and would expect a person to be exposed to around 10-15 per page.
So that might equate to a 2% total CTR.
I thought that people were pretty much immune to graphical exhortations to CLICK HERE NOW – but advertisers love to see their product getting exposed – and if they’re paying – then I’m showing …

Are you measuring this as clicks / impressions. If I create a landing page for a specific product, that is usually the ctr, specially if I laser-target it with PPCs
For free SE traffic it is lower (around a 30% makes me happy), although nowhere near the 5% I get with the casino site.

InactiveIt is probably impossble to compare non-gambling ppc traffic with gambling se traffic.
Thats like comparing oranges and apples.
Players are looking for a number of things online. There are different business models that target different player groups.
Additionally, some people like to read and some don’t.
You need a real business model in this industry, know what type of player you want to target and build your site for that player.
Lots of business models work, some faster than others but the long term ones are usually eventually the top producers.
Also keep in mind that you make the most money from a small percentage of your players. Click throughs and traffic are of course important, but making one type of player very happy is what really counts.
