InactiveThat may well come to be.
Whatever happens, things will gel next year. Britain, Italy, Spain, South Africa are going down the road of licencing and free market. We’ll see what the rest will end up doing. This will also be a test of sorts of the true power of the EU over it’s members. Very interesting.
The Sands applying for licence in Alderney is an interesting development, I think there are lots of things to watch next year.

InactiveFrance are currently chasing a top celebrity for endorsing a non-state poker room – if you can read French:
http://tf1.lci.fr/infos/people/0,,3372639,00-patrick-bruel-entendu-par-.html
And as for the other EU countries – the regulation is aimed at games that aren’t pure chance, so poker will be allowed. Pure casino games will be outlawed.
Basically are we looking at a future where only minor countries and the UK can play fully online?
And what will happen when neteller start pulling out, we are surely doomed to focus on the Albion! (UK) What of the Scandinavians?

InactiveThis is the paragraph I don’t exactly get, and seems to be important:
Selon la législation, le poker avec mises d’argent n’est autorisé que dans la quinzaine de cercles de jeux français et prochainement dans 193 casinos. La DCRG s’est lancée dans une traque aux jeux en ligne pour beaucoup d’entre eux payants, selon la même source.
Can you please translate that one?
Thanks

InactiveHere is a rough translation:
According to the legislation, poker with money bets is authorized only in about fifteen circles of French plays and soon in 193 casinos.
And that DCRG is tracking online play…

InactiveEven though Microgaming originates from South Africa, they are no longer based here as a company. They formed a local software development house called Derivco(httpx://www.derivco.co.za) that just develops the software, with Microgaming in the UK being their “Client”.
Same goes for some of the casinos that originate from here. They just “outsource” their call centers and marketing departments while the actual casinos operate from coutries that welcome casinos like Antigua.
As for South Africa licensing of online casinos, i believe it will take years before this happens. In the mid 90’s they started talks of legalising the land based route market (slots in bars and clubs etc), and only awarded the licenses a couple of years ago.

InactiveCasino & Poker “.net” ads are still running in Ontario. There was a threat of banning the ads by one of the MP’s but it has not passed in provincial parliament. The defense of the MP was the loss of potential revenue from Ontario based casinos (as they are controlled by the government).
As of this weekend – online casino & poker advertisement (.net) is still running. Just take a look at any hockey games and you will also see the board advertisement is still also very active.
I would be very surprised to hear that Canada will pass provincial or federal legislation towards online gaming in the near future.

I haven’t read or heard about a real law that says “gambling online is illegal”, just the gambling national monopoly AAMS blocked acess to some of the gambling sites on the internet last year, but nowdays I can access all of them with no problems.

GuestHi all,
this may be a bit off target and I can’t say its still true, but a couple of years ago anyway .. maybe its been longer than that; I recall getting several checks as payouts from casino winnings which came from the bank of 1st national of Las Vegas Nevada.
This was Microgaming casino checks.
I found it most interesting the checks came from that bank what with all the carryon about it being illegal in the states, especially the state of Nevada which is one that specifically states it is illegal to play.
moreso the fact that there is much speculation about vegas casinos being involved/not involved with online gambling. Methinks there is an obvious connection there; even if nowadays the checks originate from elsewhere.
