It will be interesting to see how things play out in the coming months between the World Series of Poker and the Harrah’s – 888 deal, VS PartyGaming’s World Poker Tour. I bet both companies would like to generate some serious presence and profits out of both the American, Canadian and Asia Pacific regions, building upon their largely European base. Between James Packer’s Crown Casino in Melbourne and City Of Dreams in Macau. Party already have a strong buzz and building brand in the Asia Pacific, and World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker needs no introduction, thanks to the “magic” (reach and exposure) of television. Crown Casino also has something big in the wind with their Aussie Millions, following the Crown Casino tables deal with the Victorian government, and Tabcorp’s Star City Casino, spending approx 500 million on a revamp is going to be open to ideas also, as they of course want to get their return on investment. Poker is making a push to be a major event on the Australian sporting calendar, and that’s no bluff!

Next Year’s World Series of Poker Unlikely to Feature $40,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship

    From the CAP News page:

September 10, 2009 (CAP Newswire) – It’s unlikely that the $40,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship tournament new to this year’s World Series of Poker will be featured at next year’s event, Bluff Magazine is reporting.

The event was introduced earlier this year in celebration of the WSOP’s 40th anniversary, and attracted 201 players going after a $1.9 million first prize. Despite this popularity, organizers are apparently concerned that the event overshadows the $10,000 Main Event.

Instead, next year’s WSOP is likely to feature more $1,000 events. “According to WSOP Communications Director Seth Palansky, the success of the $1,000 Hold ‘em event last year – selling out two opening days for a field of over 6,000 – means that the organisers are planning to add as many as six $1k events to the program.”
