Excellent question Villa. I think you will get a wide range of oppinions on this one.

My personal wish is that the proposed legislation NOT be passed, if it does occur I believe it will DEEPLY impact the industry world wide. Almost 80% of the revenues generated online come from players in North America. Without that revenue it would be slim pickings for most of us as affiliates.

To be honest, i believe that gambling prohibition will largely be ineffective. The only way “they” can effect and police it is to prevent ISPs from allowing customers to access gambling content.

In the event that happens, we’ll probably just see an alternative arise – I know not what, but there always is one. Probably be something satellite driven with foreigh ISP’s offering satellite ISP services to Americans or something.

With the The Sword of Damocles over our heads regarding a possible ban of the gambling in the US, we can see in the las 30 days more than important agreements for the acquisition of casinos and poker rooms.

    It’s just business as usual.

The mergers have been planned for a long time and many more are to come, along with many more places ging public.

The “sword” has been hanging up there for years. Every now and ten a little wind comes up and blows it around a bit.

Is it going to fall and decapitate the industry? I don’t think so. It’s a very very long way from ever passing, everyone and his brother will want amendments, and it has to pass in two places.

If it should pass, (which it won’t), will it kill the business?

Heck no. It takes a lot more to kill a business this profitable.

The ISP ban is the main issue in the bill. Everything else is fluff and won’t change how the industry operates today from the US. Back to the ISP thing, it certainly seems like it would be censorship and wouldn’t stand up to a constitutional challenge. It seems that the porn industry has already weathered this precedent for us.

You see, the ISP ban is proposed in order to protect the innocent (meaning kids) in US society from having access to online gambling. The silly thing is that kids really don’t have access to tons of cash, and if they did they probably would choose to spend it on music, movies, malls and video games before they spend it on online gambling. So back to porn for a second, if the US is trying to protect children, then surely every porn site would need to be banned from US view as well, and a little under 50% of this country would be up in arms over that type of censorship.

Dom makes a good point, this is a $12 Billion industry (with a B). That is A LOT of money, and if 80% is coming from the US, that’s $9.6 Billion being spent, which adds up to a lot of voters.

In the end, our best hope in the event this did pass is to stop the ISP ban on the grounds of censorship.

The government’s attempt to step in and be the ‘parent’ that they DON’T expect it’s citezens to be…..
