lol, you’re not gonna find that in the Bahamas. First they have no hills that I can think of and 2nd inland isn’t very far.
I’ve been through 2 strong ones and a few brushes with others and I couldn’t even imagine what it would be like to go through one on an island.

InactiveAnd yet people actually live there.

InactiveBahamas is a tax free zone. You can gain permanent residency there if you buy a home for $500 000usd. That’s about the size of the last check I sent revenue Canada. It’s hard to get ahead with the taxes we pay in north america. I easily spend 5 times more on taxes than I do on myself.
Keep in mind once you get residency there you are in no way obligated to live there year round. I like the Bahamas for the beaches like every one else, but I much prefer the south eastern Caribbean island, as they are more volcanic in origin, and are more lush and mountainous. Unfortunately they don’t have the tax free thing. Bahamas is purely flat, same with the Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos which are the other more expensive tax havens.
If you are worried about hurricanes, why not just travel somewhere else during the short hurricane season? If I had a gf I would have become a resident there all ready, but I would find it too lonely not knowing anyone, even if I did spend 6 hours a day in the ocean.

InactiveThanks for that great response antoine – sounds like I’ve got some saving up to do to get $500,000 together! Where did you hear that btw?

vladcizsolMemberAs a Floridian I have been through six hurricanes and while they are unpleasant they arent the end of the world if you make even minimal efforts to negate damages. Here’s what I think about Hurricanes and why I would rather contend with them then other natural disasters.
You have days of warning to react, prepare or get the hell out of harms way.
Let’s face it most areas have one natural disaster or another that can ruin your day.
Most people in the midwest say “I wouldnt want to live in Florida, you guys have hurricanes!” Well, yes we do, but we get forewarning and can batton down the hatches or evacuate. In the midwest you are minding your own business watching TV (or sleeping) when you suddenly hear a freight train like sound and a frigging Tornado rips your house to shreds and deposits your pets in the next county. Not much you can do about it unless you and toto see the damned thing coming and run down to the cellar.
California —- “Hey what’s that shaking?” or “Dude that wall of mud or wild fire totally wasted our house! Gnarly!”
Northwest —- “WTF! The mountain we live on just erupted!” or ” Hey, that 80 foot wave making its way through down town Seattle is washing away all our Starbucks!”
Upper plains — “Gee it’s mighty cold here in the car and the snow isn’t stopping I hope someone comes and gets my ass before it’s frozen stiff”
I would have no reservations about living in the Bahamas. If the weather guys see hurricanes coming pop over to Florida or Atlanta for a few days till the worst blows over then return to paradise…
