InactiveGood spot! That is so blatant its pathetic! Scraping is such a bad term for theft. We need a better word – “plagiarising” perhaps?

InactiveIf we are looking for a simple, short word for ‘theft’, then we could perhaps use the word ‘theft’ itself
I mean… ‘plagiarising’:banger:

Anyway…bit of detective work:
There are no affiliate links or subpages – looks like its been set up as a doorway page. However it links to three other sites. One of these is called “speltips.nl”. The whois info for that is identical to the “thefted” site (anonymous via ISP). So looks like the same guy.
So now go to xhttp://www.speltips.nl/casino.html and you get his affiliate links (oohhh, 888, how topical).
His(her) Casino Rewards Aff ID is “aff40611” and his 888 ID is “362229”, if that helps. There you go – couple of emails to the affiliate managers and they should xfer his earnings to you Prof

It also links to “gokkasten-pagina.nl” but this simply redirects to Cherry Games. However there is full Whois info incl. name (and different host) on that one so it may be separet, or it may tie in with what the Aff programs have as a name.
Cheers
Simmo!

InactiveI agree this is not scraping, we really need to be accurate in our descriptions and not confuse techniques.
I don’t speak dutch so I am not so sure it’s theft either; babelfish returned text that wasn’t an exact match. It look’s like the site may have been inspired by CAP, but after a quick glance I don’t see anything stolen, I didn’t look around though.

We have reached him and he has promised to change the site. We will be watching him closely to ensure that happens.

allright, I did mess up the descriptions for the techniques apparently.
And because I was’nt really sure whether copying layouts is scraping (I’m a newbie..), I added the sentence “everything is translated into dutch, so no real content scraping, but it is obviously copied from CAP.”.
Just to let you know that I don’t want to call someone a scraper if he’s not.
However, I am surprised that you say: “It look’s like the site may have been inspired by CAP, but after a quick glance I don’t see anything stolen.”
Do you mean that it is “accepted” to copy a site’s layout, if you just change the content? Because to me the site looks quite a bit like CAP. There are probably a couple of things changed, but the ‘general first impression’ is the same.
But if it’s ‘legal’ or ‘ok’ to copy ans semi paste some one’s layout, then just tell me as I don’t know yet, I’ll take notice of it.
To me, it just seemed unethical, unfair, … you know.

PJ

InactiveThats ok, I seen you had stated it wasnt really scraping, just wanted voice my opinion that we needed to be careful with that terminology.
Layouts/templates are a dime a dozen, unless its something ground breaking that is totally unique to just one site, I doubt a simple layout would be protected by copyright laws.
I had looked at the coding, it was different. Both used shades of greens, but the colors are different, the graphics were different. The logos are similar but not the same; heck look at CAPS spring break logo; it too was inspired by another very well known logo.
I do agree the webmaster could have done a better job choosing his layout and color scheme, but calling him a thief might be going a bit far, he is simply an idiot in my opinion.

InactiveReading this, at first made me think that I didn´t understand the concept of scraping. Turns out this isn´t a scrape. Just some fool being a tad too blatant in his “web design efforts”.
I don´t think the professor can expect any money from him though because he won´t have made any with this dump.

InactiveI hope I posted in the right spot as I would really like some feed back on this.
As alot of you know, I have have my casino site up for 7 years with many, many redesigns. My PR is 3.
I designed a flash site for my poker domain and have been live since Feb and it now has a PR of 4 after only 3 months. I have absolutely no idea why this is BUT, I typed in google “lucky lady online poker” and the site that is ranked #3 is http://www.free-1.com/?path=top/out.php – This link has my identical title and description in google and when you click on it, it takes you to some lotto site and when I looked at the souce coding, the title and description is completely different. Does anyone know why the google title and descr. is mine and yet the link has a completely different title and description?
If you go to the 3rd page rank 21 is “directory.searchwarp.com/A218P5-Adult-Entertainment.htm” which is a directory that I swapped links with and is the same title and description I submitted.
If anyone can shed light on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Dana
