InactiveLou,
I’ve heard that a taxi ride from Hethrow to the Chelsea area is about 80 pounds, or $160… ouch.
I also hear that the subway (tube) is more economical.
I’ve never been to London and really don’t know the first thing about how to get from the airport to the hotel, but I know I don’t wanna drop $200 on a taxi.
Do you have any plans or recommendations you can post?

InactiveGday J!
I had the same problem trying to work out how I was going to get from Heathrow to Kensington.
We’re going to take the Heathrow Express direct to Paddington and then a 10-15 minute cab ride (as opposed to a rediculously long one) from there.
You can even pre-purchase your ticket online

Here’s the site for the Heathrow Express: http://www.heathrowexpress.com/index.asp
Sorry to butt into your conversation, but I LOVE to help!
Cheers
Trish

InactiveThere is a “help” station at the airport.
They are super helpful. If you give them your adress they will guide you perfectly. Last time I was sent to a bus right out the door from there and it took me to town where I took a cab that cost me some $20. It was fast and convenient and no lugging luggage for any distance after a long trip.

InactiveThe piccadilly line goes straight from all heathrow terminals right to west kensington! Only about four quid for the whole journey.

InactiveGuys the tube (subway, Piccadilly line) runs directly from Heathrow stopping at Earl’s Court, Gloucester Road and South Kensington. All these 3 stations are very close to the conference venue and your hotels. A cab from any of these stations to your hotel is probably around £5.
This is the fastest way to get there.
Hope this helps!
Cheers

InactiveThere is also a Gatwick Express Train that takes you to Victoria Station, it takes 30 minutes.

Cabs are quite expensive, a ride from covent garden to paddington, if i recall correctly was about 15-20 pounds, for about about a 10-15 minute trip.

vladcizsolMemberI am going to have to have a major battle with Mrs Professor about packing too many bags. We need to lug all our stuff over to the Gatwick Express and then get them (and us) stuffed into a Black Cab. She hasnt been to London so I suspect she is going to try to pack like she always does (she takes 8 changes of clothes and 6 pairs of shoes for a weekend trip).

InactiveLOL! Good luck with that, Prof.

InactiveIf you have not taken the tube in london be prepaired for some extremely confusing stuff, ask for help before you try to find out where to go!
also, dont exchange money at the airport, use an ATM machine (make sure your card will work before you go)

InactiveMini cabs are the cheapest taxi service in London.
Find online or call this one: “Monarch radio cars” tel:02089947777
Let them know your flight number and the arrival time plus time for customs and luggage (about 30 minutes). They will wait for you outside. The price would be about £20 for 4 seats car to get from Heathrow to Kensington. The Professors would have to pay extra :wink-wink£20:wink-wink if coming from Gatwick. The only problem is if your flight is delayed. -
