Well the volleyball thing didn’t happen either so apparently I’m either at the wrong hotel or no one bothered to say anything. Neither Alex or Michael are checked in according to the front desk.

The welcome goodie-pack was nonexitent. The special gift from the hotel was an invitation to get a free van ride to their other hotel,,,probably an attempt to sell aomtething else.

Its pretty saddening considering it was the first thing this VERY expensive hotel had to offer was a pressurized sales pitch.

Don’t get me wrong, everybody is wonderful and the hotel is nice, but c’mon guys we just got here. Don’t pressure me about going to your ‘other hotel. I flew 5k miles to get here an relax and don’t even get the chance to have a relaxation day.

My other experience was buying a pack of smokes that the con artist tried to rip my girlfriend off (£7.33) when the shop at the same Paradisus Hotel sell then for about $20 for 10 packs. But even that wasn’t good enough; the total was 142 Mexican dollars and her took her $150 for 2 packs and gave no change.

Well being the American I am, and all the crap I went through to get here (and expense), I marched right over and all of a sudden he couldn’t speak a work of English. So I went to the front desk, pulled the Manager over with me and after the guy tried to BS me and say it was ‘exchange rate’ differences I got a refund, once I stopped laughing at his gall.

At any rate I’m close to chalking up this trip as disappointing, but I’ll give it awhile before that.

At least its a write-off for the tax-man.

I hope things get better. For what this hotel charges I could have gotten a 5-star villa (apartment) right on the beach without 500 sreaming children running around and the ever-daunting stake-your-claim rush at 8am to throw your towel on the best sun bed, then showing back up at 3 in the afternoon only to pick it up and walk away.

Sounds like a lemon – unfortunately it’s to be expected after CAP imploded.
A lot of goodwill and desire to mix evaporated.

The forum is a bit of a tumbleweed farm now.

    Thanks for that Alex.

Sorry to be a thrill-kill but this bit of info is post-mortem.

Well, it’s my second day here in Cancun and from my count there are 16 people here, including affiliates, aff managers and operators.

There seems to be no organization whatsoever so the people here are doing what they can to coordinate themselves and get together when possible.

I managed to hook up with Gary and his girlfriend this evening thanks to him posting his room number in this thread.

Not sure what else can be said about this event – its my first CAP spring break and frankly it’s been an utter dissappointment…

On a positive note, the people that are here have all been great and are trying to make the best of things.

I was tempted to come this year, which would have been my first time, but perhaps glad I didn’t now.

Why is it no one is there? I thought these used to be really big events.

    Hi John,

Fortunately you probably made the right decision. Unforunately we didn’t. Its cost everyone thousands and has left a very bad taste in everyones mouth.

Maybe I should just not show up in Holland next month on the SEO panel or the session I’m scheduled to give. Fortunately I don’t roll that way and have more respect than that. There may be one person that has spent every extra cent they have to attend.

I feel really bad for the guys (and gals) here. I thought I must have missed something here in a thread or email, but I didn’t. Thankfully we all have hooked up and most haven’t travelled 5000 miles and an entire day to get here. The hotel, weather and ppl are wonderful.

For the great crowd (11 strong) that Sue and I partied with last night…I was and am serious about the yacht. I think we’ll do it Thursday, and since I didn’t get everyone’s details please leave a messsage on room 1118 and I’ll be sure to get you the details.

As far as I know at this point (and I’m still a bit tipsy from the 12 pack of martinis last night) We’ll be setting off on more than a ‘Three hour cruise,…. a Three hour cruise’….(sung to the Giligans Island theme’) from Cancun. I’ll book the taxi at 9am on Thursday .

The yacht we’ll be on is a huge cabin cruiser and we’ll be out all day. I’ll try to arrange a place to stopoff and eat some grub, but just in case bring extra booze.

Once again I am in room 1118 and this won’t cost anyone a dime. Sue and I took out one of those 2-person speed boats yesterday and when we returned, being American and all, I saw that I could have gotten a bigger and better boat, so I already planned to do this. To be able to hang out with the ppl we hung out with last night would make this trip more than worth it.

So if you planned on doing the ‘Deep Sea Fishing’ or the ‘Jeep Safari’ or any of the other non-existant events please reconsider and let’s make the best of what we have. After all, its still Cancun, the weather is great, the hotel is fantastic (of course it should be for the coin they charge!), and we’re going to party like its 1999!

By the way, we’re going to need a doctor and a skipper (and a couple Maryanne’s) so if you know of any please forward their details.

If anyone wants to dive and is certified (not crazy…PADI – I’m both btw) let me know and I”l get some gear.

I’m going to try to arrange to go to Cozumel on this day trip but no promises until I speak to the boat dudes. Either way we may still have the poker tournament. It will be strip poker so leave your money at home and dress in layers! No cameras plz. (I’ll cc everyone mine)

Okay so room 1118, Thursday, be in the lobby at 9am and dress in layers.

I really cannot believe that whoever is running CAP these days (anybody?) did not let people know that the event was not happening.

Yea the turnout on this event hasnt been the best.

But as Kevin said, all sound people being here so we will probably sort something good out, but a few more people wouldnt hurt. $30 for a bottle of sunscrean doenst make your day any brighter 1

Time to hit the breakfast though.

Actually this all makes me regret not going – I was going to but am grounded this spring for personal reasons.

It sounds leisurely for a change, no rushing through meetings and conversations to move on to the next. A real Spring Break.

BTW this is what conferences started out like, small gatherings. I remember the first CAC Amsterdam – aff managers outnumbered affiliates two to one or worse.

These are very different types of things, the spring break and the big conferences, and I think both have their place.

I bet you guys who made it to Cancun will come back having made some good friends in the industry…. I know I made the best friends at the small gatherings, friendships that made us all stronger through the years.

Glad that some of you guys down there finally got to hook up with each other and feel bad for the way it played out. Just goes to show how much of a joke it is these days and the fact that no one from CAP has even responded to this thread. Personally I think they should refund all of you your money for going down there. Just another blow to this place, oh well, didn’t really expect any better.

    Hi Everyone,

As I said in my other post, we did intend on having several fun activities and small gatherings sponsored at CAP Spring Break. Due to the recent challenges we’ve faced as well as the change in management, these events could not be organized. We intentionally didn’t cancel CAP Spring Break at the request of several people that were already attending and figured it would be a good thing to go back to the old format where it was more of an informal meetup.

There was a miscommunication between our team and London on who would deliver this message and I do apologize if it was never sent out to the registered attendees.

Sam from CAP arrived yesterday and Yvette will arrive tomorrow. They will try to send an e-mail out to everyone and ensure people can make the best of it.

Please contact me with any questions.

Well it was cool meeting you guys last night. I had to hit the sack early to the travel times but it was like hitting the sack at 4:30am.

It is a washout this event but its cool to just chill and meet everyone who showed up. I have the wristbands here (glad we sponsored them) oh and I have some beach towels if anyone would like one, just holler and I will fetch.

    CAP whats happening?

P.S. the beer is cold and the sun is out. :hattip:
