BigKahuna I agree with you entirely the world would be a better place if we as a species could avoid eating meat, and as much as I would like it to happen it’s not going to. Animal rights aside, It takes 10 times as much land to grow 1 pound of meat as it does vegetable. That means that we could have 1/10th of the land that we have devoted to farming and still feed the same number of people. This unused land could remain wetland, forest, national parks, etc. But humans unfortunately love meat.
We have to pick the battles we fight. In this case the seals are not even being killed for meat. They are being slaughtered to give employment to unemployed fishermen. This is being done as to replinish the cod population, but what the government fails to state is that cod only makes up 3% of a seals diet. There is no scientific evidence to backup the claims the government is making.
