They must have added your link to a lot of “What’s new” pages, or something like that? I know that Google doesn’t like link churn (temporary links). It might hurt your rankings a little bit, especially if they remove these extra links in one go. If a site loses over one thousands links quickly, it looks a bit suspicious. On the other hand, I’ve added a link to BOTW in the past, and it didn’t hurt my rankings.

it probably won’t make a difference unless this is a continous way you build links.

I shouldn’t be worried, too many links from one site is ok, but too many link too quickly from different sites may result in a penalty. That is what I found.
