    Interesting topic and discussion.
Personally I like casino bonsues. They are an additional tool to help us generate sales. Bonuses provide an incentive for a player to try out a new casino or switch from one they are already playing at. With so many casinos offering the exact same games we need incentives to attract new players.

That being said you dont want to target “Bonus Hunters” or “Bonus Abusers” with your marketing. Those types of players are not profitable for anyone.

As long as we dont blur the image of what bonuses are and how to promote them I think they are a good thing. I can tell you MANY larger affiliates DO promote bonuses to their players and do VERY WELL financially each month.

It’s funny, but I still remember a conversation that paralleled this in Miami a couple of years ago. One affiliate was speaking to a friend of mine who is wildly successful online and is a Super Affiliate, he swore to my friend that targeting players with bonuses or using the word “Free” would never earn anyone a dime. He sincerely believed this and probably still does. The guy he was talking to explained that “Free” was the most popular term in retail advertising and it’s what brick and mortar businesses use to attract clients. Since my friend had been involved in retail sales for years he applied that knowledge to his gambling portals and like I said is now rolling in money.

    That’s my two cents.

Ok yes ‘free online casinos’ , ‘free casino games’ and most phrases with FREE + CASINO are excellent keywords and they always returned alot of players. No doubt about it. But the point is I have never seen any ‘Super Affiliates’ like you call them, to try promoting casinos offering huge bonuses on Adwords or Overture. I think there are some reasons that explain that.. no ?

No need to go at any convention: I see who are targetting ‘free online casinos’ I know that they are ”super affiliates” knowing what they are doing , most of them did PPC campains and I do also know that nobody amoung them would have paid a cent to promote high bonuses casinos, directly or in good spot of their portals. And I wasn’t talking about regular bonuses, I am referring to the huge bonuses a particular affiliate program is marketing like $888 free or $600 free. Thought I made it clear and not too subtil sorry.

Interesting post Hypnotik. I could go on for hours on this one but I’ll keep my observations short :)

I believe bonuses have a place, but converting players is more about “managing expectations”. If you base your description of the casino on the bonus amount or give it emphasis, expect to attract the freebie hunters. They will read the T&C’s at the casino first and usually base their decision on the wagering requirements and restrictions. So 9 times out of 10, you get a clickthru but the casino’s terms put them off. However, if you tell them on your site about the wagering requirement aswell and they go there knowing what to expect, they will be more likely to convert.

If you give the bonus less priority on your site and concentrate the reviews on other aspects like support, banking etc, you are more likely to attract the more serious player IMHO. As long as your information is correct and thus “manages their expectations” ready for when they click thru.

    Cheers

    Great topik!
Due to the fact that we promote casinos here this topic is relevant to all of us.
As far as I represent the http://www.va-bank.com online casino I had to make several researches just on this point.
My bosses are requiring traffic from me. So I decided to use the easiest way. Just put as much “FREE” as possible lol. :spam:
We (together with several webmasters) were making promos with free no deposit bonuses etc. :grunt:
The traff on that days increased for 5 to 15 times!!!! And moreover the level of depositors did the same. :woo-hoo:
We were giving away all the bonuses fairly (that was a damn hard work lol).
Then I decided to make an accent on other thing – “Payouts”. Said didn’t work. :flush:
So I may tell only one thing…. You never know where to catch the goldfish. BUT running huge traff through the casino (“free”) increases the chances. BUT the same time one will have to face with thousands of bonus hunting surfers.
    The truth is out there……..

My feeling is that if you look at this from the player perspective, the ones with no money will go get the freebies, the ones with good money will go for the casinos with solid reputations.

As an affiliate you can earn off both – lots of small fish or a few big fish, depends who you set your site up to attract.
