Inactivegot some news…
It seems that the Bodog group has been involved in a patent infringement. They have been ordered by a U.S court to pay $ 48,937,456.00 to 1ST TECHNOLOGY LLC.
1st Technology claims that Bodog has used their patent without being licensed.
Not sure how and what they did.Chartwell Technology Inc has a contract with 1st Technology to use their patented optimization technology for online gaming products.
Maybe due to the offshore nature of Bodog and lack of U.S assets they are considering Bodog’s .com domains as U.S ones and are being seized.

Bodog Remains Fully Operational
Online gaming giant continues to offer customers full service despite domain dispute
August 28, 2007
Bodog is encountering DNS issues related to several of its websites and is directing customers to an alternate site (http://www.newbodog.com) with little or no interruption to service.
“We are having difficulties related to our DNS certificate but in little more than 12 hours, nearly all aspects of the website have been updated to reflect the environment our clients are accustomed to,” says Bodog founder Calvin Ayre. “We are working to resolve any of the minor remaining glitches on the alternate site, but other than that it is business as usual.”
According to Ayre, the problems result from a dispute over the ownership of the Bodog.com domain name.
“We are fighting this dispute and are confident that we will win,” says Ayre. “I sincerely apologize to any customers affected by our interruption and will continue to provide updates as they become available.”

InactiveHere is a tidbit that I find to be most interesting…
Untold monetary damage will most certainly result from Bodog’s drastic loss of search engine optimization. For example: type in the search term “football betting” and while Bodog appears among the top 5 in Google, its link is now dead.

Agree 100% – The seo loss will be the last of their worries.
They will lose alot of $$$ from type ins from all their offline and media advertising and “Brand” everything will have bodog.com on it and new people wont know to go to NewBodog.com…. also all the affiliate sites with old links etc

InactiveCan I just say – Bodog you suck!! Why not just pay up? Didn’t you take any legal advise about this eventuality? Players won’t be interested in joining a site with legal problems, and are wary these days of fake domain names – why would they risk it? They’ll just go somewhere else.
Seems like they just ignored any possible threat to their domain name, like they’re untouchable or something, it smacks of arrogance.

InactiveJust got this announcement in my email xxhttp://gamingintelligencegroup.com/gig/content/view/493/2/
Excerpt:
Bodog.com is no more. Following what appeared to be technical difficulties yesterday with the company’s domain, customers are now being directed to NewBodog.com.
According to details emerging this morning, the loss of the company’s domain name is not the cause of the problem, but rather a result of more serious litigation brought against the company by 1st Technology LLC.

InactiveBodog got Fu*king screwed!
This is the patent they “Allegedly” infridged on. Good god, talking about “Obviousness”. This Patent basically covers ALL ONLINE GAMLBING. There is no, Systematic Operation, which you would normally see in a patent. This would be like be developing a patent for online shooting of spaceships and the go after every online space game out there.I have a hard time this will uphold when it gets to the higher court. When I was going for my patent in 96 for online financial transactions. I had more of a Systematic Operation then this guy does, and I kept getting rejected because of “Obviousness”. Costing me more then 8k for nothing. This is ridiculas!
The only reason this garbage was ruled upon was A) Bodog reps didnt show,
It was a offshore entitiy. This will never prevail for one simple reason. The way this guys patient are written it covers basically ALL online gambling. How much you want to bet if Harras or Mirage had an Online Gambling website, they would have been immune to this patent. It would have never flown. Looks to me as if some Covservative Judge in Anti-Gambling Washington state over stepped his bounds. Thankfully for Bodog Default Judgements are easy to get a stay on.August 29, 2007 at 1:56 pm #747164Anonymous
InactiveLooks like bait to lure Bodog onto US ground. Fat chance.
Bodog can withstand the problem.
Not so sure the others using this platform at the time will be able to.
