InactiveWSOP will easily find a new home
Too many people just waiting to get a slice of that action!January 11, 2004 at 7:16 am #643411Anonymous
InactiveVery True, just wonder who the lucky one will be! Not too many poker rooms are set up for that kind of tournament. I’ve played at the WSOP 3-4 times and there’s 100s of tables set up, one year in Tunica for the WPO they had tables in the hallways!!
Dealers are another issue, one year at a big tourney in Philadelphia, Miss. was their first year to do such a big tourney, they had blackjack and craps dealers dealing poker!! It was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a tourney!January 11, 2004 at 1:34 pm #643414
vladcizsolMemberThis is indeed unfortunate as there is a lot of history there. I have played Craps at Binnions and thought it a very comfortable place to throw the bones.

InactiveI would say that Bellagio and The Mirage are the front runners. Like you said, most of the other places simply aren’t set up to handle that kind of tournament (mostly too small, but these two will have plenty of convention-type space they can use).
I have never played at the WSOP, must be one hell of an experience. But I did have a reputation in the cardrooms of Gardena… LOL…

InactiveTalk about a disfunctional family. The old man must be rolling in his grave.
The other thing I find ironic is that the union was so hot for their past due payments that they end up putting 1500 Binion employees out of jobs. Got to love those unions, always thinking ahead.

InactiveHarrah’s was in negotiations to buy Binion’s previously; so they are an option.
I think a casino like the Bellagio would love to land the World Series of Poker.
Considering how hot poker is right now, and how well The World Series of Poker does on ESPN ratings wise, I’m sure the WSOP situation will be resolved fairly quickly.

InactiveIf you haven’t read Positively Fifth Street by James McManus, then you’re missing out. It’s a great book about the WSOP.
Folks interested in this thread and interested in the Binions might be interested in that book.

InactiveHarrah’s it seems is the lucky one!
Buying Binion’s Horseshoe gives Harrah’s two strong assets, Thompson said, referring to the Horseshoe brand name in Nevada and to the World Series of Poker.
“Our expectation is that the World Series of Poker will go on this year,” said Thompson, although he couldn’t say whether the event would be held at the Horseshoe. “It’s one of the premier events in the world of gaming and has by far the largest prize pool of any sporting event.”
