“We’re going down one path, and the rest of the world is going down a completely different path,” Sebastian Sinclair, Internet research analyst for Christiansen Capital Advisors, said in a New York Times interview.

Las Vegas casino operators would love a chance to compete for global Internet gambling dollars. Industry analysts predict the marketplace will mushroom to $15 billion by 2006. With a mature, highly regulated industry in Nevada and brand names known and trusted worldwide, Las Vegas casino websites would attract enormous business.
this is NOT a sure bet and I suspect Vegas knows this all toowell … sure Vegas will have an advantage … but the internet
will make it harder for them than ever to compete and win …
look at what happened to porn … the little guy ruled over the
big boys … why would it be any different for this vice ?
… we can bet that Vegas will ” try ” to make it illegal
for others to join them, at least for american gambling.

InactiveI have been thinking about that a lot – I think Vegas and the world can coexist just fine. They can certainly coexist on my sites.
Some of the current casinos may not qualify for certification – I think there will be some rigid standards.
That’s ok though, they can try to comply or not. There are a lot of rogues existing now – I am sure they will continue to exist.
The positive is that regulation will add to customer confidence and make things better for all.
