Of course they can find this place, and I am sure we have more resident blackhatters than we care to think about.
If they want sites to scrape they take them off the net, they take ones that rank for what they want. They are not going to research your site to see if it suits them. That makes no sense.

Ouch… I was just a bit worried is all, not trying to sound ignorant. I really don’t know what ‘makes sense’ to these people. I guess this means that if I am not a high ranking site (and I am not for any decent terms) then I shouldn’t be getting scraped or whatever.

There are a lot of people worried about carrying their signatures.
Your signature gives you a link from cap everytime you post. It is really one of the most valuable things you have available to help you in the engines.
Use it, and don’t worry about things. If a scraper uses you, we’ll deal with it.
Of course I make no claims to understand how anyone else thinks, but it would be logical that if I wanted to scrape something it would be something sucessful that I would scrape, so I would find the top sites for the keywords I was targeting and scrape them. Sadly though, this logic does not always hold as even a few of my sites have been scraped, and I don’t rank for anything. My only thoughts are they are no good or just stupid to use something of mine.

It won’t hurt you, but it’s off the radar in the big scheme of things. I’m just being realistic.
Really, we need to be much tougher on places that pay the scrapers to scrape.
If it doesn’t pay to scrape in this industry, no one will do it.

I agree 100%… I liked the fact that CasinoPays took down a scraper’s account. Now – how do we get more pro-active on this? My sites haven’t gotten scraped yet (as far as I know), but I hate to see that because at some point I will have a higher ranked site and I really don’t want my content stolen with no recourse at that point.
So – do we traffic-cop the web? How do we accomplish this?

I will tell you what happened with Cpays Ellion maybe shut down the account but maybe not. Ask yourself this, is Ellion better off shutting down the scraper account or leaving it open?
Rarely morality and money make good partners. Its a gamble and something you have to take his word for. But finacially he is better off leaving the scaper account open. If he does he has two revenue streams.
That fact is two approaches were takin. LandofOZ took his own private action while Ellion took his. I highly doubt Ellion did anything. I think its better to shut the scraper site down on your own, especially with shaddy programs like 888.com and cpays. What would you do if greed drove your life?
I have been shutting then down for months already.

When you say a site has been “shut down,” do you mean that it was removed from the search engine index, or do you mean that the site was literally shut down — i.e. the site itself isn’t online anymore. I think you mean the site was just removed from the search engine index, but I want to make sure.

Good question I believe the site was takin off the engine, as in see you later were pulling your site off yahoo.
Honestly I think the signature thing is a dangerous. We all know alot of scrapers hang out here. Why not its like a superstore for some of the top gambling webmasters in the industry.
Pay a visit to CAP leave with a full bag of goodies. If I were a blackhatter this would for sure be the place to go.
I leave a signature, but only one. The site is mine but I would feel very sorry for the little puke head that tries to scrape it. The registrant is no other than the famous undisputed contender, Ricky G. greek39

You totally underestoimate the power we have. Look at the 6 programs that tried to breach contract with us last year – even the biggest ones backed down eventually when they began to feel the pain.
Getting google or yahoo or whoever to unlist the sites is good and fine – but it allows the problem to fester in the industry.

Well Dominique I respect your views very much so. But I have to disagree on this one . I think its best double action to be takin. In the case of Cpays Ellion can do all whole lot of things with a scraper site whick ranks high.
He could close the affiliate account down but assign a new account to this scraper. What a cool idea that would be. For this reason and others which I don’t care too mention. But this is the truth of what is really happening.
I have seen my fair share of redirect pages for cpays and its a shame. I beleive in taking a strong stand and doing whatever it takes to quarantee compliance.
This problem of scraping has been going on long enough. Its’ time to start some new approaches.
Nothing wrong with a double whammy, but the programs still need to be publicly called out and held responsible on every instance. If they get caught lying publicly it will cost them dearly.

A two pronged attack is the best course of action in this scenario. The affiliate program has to be informed and made to take action, whilst you also need to inform the engines as well.
