InactiveGreat, thanks for the info. I also just checked the view source for these pages and I see that all of our content is in an iframe. In short I don’t think these thieves are hurting us one bit. Perhaps someone with more experience can correct me if I am wrong.

Inactivewell….they are hurting you….they are stealing your content and making it there own. you see when you click on your page in the frame, the web address stays on there web address.
they are stealing your traffic….although what i think is stupid is, if someone clicks on an aff link on your site…you get the credit not them….so they are doing it for malicious reasons only….to steal rank.
but by putting that code on your pages, it makes your real site come up with web address and all….
IMHO….I am by no means an expert on these things…. :wink-wink

Inactivethey can hurt you if google indexes their site and makes the mistake to think their site is the original one, in this case your own site might be penalised and/or loose ranking for duplicate content.
@Dom
curious about the title of your first post “evil aff”??July 21, 2007 at 11:27 pm #743181Anonymous

Inactivesure as evil as black can be,
but an affiliate?July 21, 2007 at 11:32 pm #743184Anonymous
InactiveI just thought google cannot index anything in an iframe. At any rate I know these thieves are not good for my site, I guess I was just pointing out that its not as bad as I thought being that my content is in an iframe. However in the same breath if G&C has lost rankings, I would like to know if this is the reason. I just got blocked from google so I am not able to run anymore queries, but I think one way to ascertain if they are really hurting us is to check the cached page of the url they have your site on. If the cached page doesn’t show your content, I am pretty sure we are in the clear.

InactiveYour ranking would be hardly a result of any
But even if the site copied your pages word for word, it would still be highly unlikely that you’d drop in ranking because of it. Google has been screwing aronud recently and a lot of websites will see big moves in ranking (up and down), if they don’t already.
The hijacking issue has been pretty much solved for quite a while and people should really stop worrying about it all that much.

InactiveThis is an interesting read:

InactiveThat page was last updated on August 1st 2006, and originally written on November 17th 2004. This is a looooong time ago. Our websites get hijacked litteraly on hourly basis and by methods not even described in the article.
I would personally check to see if I have not bought run of site text links and/or added a lot of content in a short time.

Lol, that’s almost funny.
G&C barely ever links to anyone and has operated in the same fashion for some 6 years.
It is (was now! ) an authority site.

InactiveWell, I don’t know what an authority site means, but I would give you an example of what I meant:
You have a run-of-site text link on pokeranalysis.com. That link is among many other RoS text link. Wheather you paid for the link or not, it does not matter, but that website has over 15,000 pages. Getting so many links in a short time is not good. Links like this could temporarily hurt your ranking, but nothing serious in a long term.
As far as content, if you add content, without getting links back, it would lower your ranking.
But in your case, I think the most likely scenario is – you simply got out-linked. Other websites got more links since the last update than you did. And now they rank before you. I have been keeping my eye on a few networks which were banned a few years back, and now I see them coming up in the results. This means that Google did an update bigger than usual – news sites got in, newer sites got higher, older sites did not get enough to compete with the newer.
But it has nothing to do with an iframe hijack. I would personally invite anyone to hijack our websites with an iframe as I find it quite beneficial – the traffic and banners are still mine, and my logo is quite visible. To me iframe means free traffic, but that’s just me.

InactiveThat link has been there for many years, back when the site had a handful of pages.
Google knows the age of links.
G&C has not used any artificial linking ever and is not going to start now. It has always been “outlinked”.

Inactivehi gang,
These are my sites.
The framed pages are off search results which when clicked open on a frameset page. I did not think it was a hijack when I had it implemented, and when contacted we usually respond within 48 hrs to disable the frame.
Moving forward, I will disable framing. expect this to be completed by Friday next week.
Sorry for the hassle. While I don’t think I am an EVIL affiliate – you be the judge of that.
