Interesting. Does anyone know of anyone running ads. When I go to google.co.uk there aren’t any ads running, but I’m accessing from the US, so maybe I’m blocked. Can anyone in the UK confirm this?

All the operators with UK Gambling Commission licences have been running the ads for a few now and they are very visible from the UK only. The new policy opens up to UK based affiliates to compete, but with restrictions.

So if we’re outside the UK but want to advertise there .. we cannot?

Well, when I signed up, the signup forced the country in the address details as “United Kingdom”, but then I ws “invited” so maybe that was a known fact. The gambling-specific T&C’s don’t say anything about having to be UK resident.

    Thanks S,

I have got a few ads still running at google and am scared to even tip-toe past them for fear they’ll take them down.

So I don’t bother them about anything … other than to make sure the money is in the account when they come for it.

One thing I noticed about them was that you could submit nearly the same (I never tried exactly the same for fear of being banned) but like change a plural to a single .. and get included one day and the next time not: which I suspect means that they have human editors involved in at least some of their process (perhaps to oversee) and it may largely depend upon whether they are in the right mood that day as to whether you get a pass.

*which is why I don’t bother them much … the next guy or gal that looks at my ads might not have “gotten some” lately and are in no mood for grey area antics.

I had a long chat with them about this last week – as to how they were going to enforce a code of conduct and it sounds like they will be relatively strict, but within some reason. For example, he said they expected to see the “majority” of properties were UK whitelisted.

Also, you are expected to open a brand new account for this and notify them of previous adwords accounts you may have had. The new account (I think) is a special type rather than the straight forward one. You also have to fill in a seperate declaration form detailing entities and addresses.
