There is a thread on seochat about this. That person is claiming that by updating their content every few hours, they were able to rise in the SERPS rather dramatically. Here is the thread:

Yup if you add new content regularly google will vist your site more often for updates.
SERP isnt better than PR though is it?
Anyway, I decided to have a link to my blog on the front page then paint it with annoying poker links. I’m trying to give out “hey this site isnt all about links and stuff” feel to the visitors :santa2:
PR is only a measure of your site’s strength. SERPs is what everyone is in this business to achieve. The higher you are in the natural search results, the more traffic you get, the more money you make (assuming your traffic converts). PR is just one factor that helps to affect your position in the SERPs.
