InactiveGood to see they are on the ball with things…too bad that it looks like most affiliates will see some lower results…
They should increase all our percentages as a token.

InactiveVery thorough response. Thank you Gian.
In my opinion, the changes taking place are for the better.

InactiveAs a token of what? That they’re sorry they’ve been overpaying you?
August 18, 2005 at 10:07 pm #671183Anonymous
InactiveI still don’t believe I have been overpaid by 90% and that, while starting to deposit more and more, my players play less and less.
It makes no sense to me.

InactiveYour players deposit more and more because they are probably just stacking absolute’s bonuses.
Absolute offer continual 15% up to a deposit of $1000 bonuses.
I would offer 4-1 that your players are depositing and then withdrawing most of their deposits after 48 hours (this churn also reduces your payments if Absolute charge deposit fees to the affiliate). This keeps the player with a nice balance of 10 cents a hand bonus to clear and artificially inflates your deposit stats.
Absolute’s games are also horribly tight, so most hands at 1/2 rake just 25 cents.

InactiveThanks for clearing that up for me.
It makes sense now.
The old bonus story again. :shots:

InactiveYes, I agree, I did appreciate getting that letter as well, Gian has always been quite professional and done the right thing by me.
As of today, if the stats are pretty up to date, it appears we’ll lose about 10-20% of our normal commissions, but, if they were over paying to begin with, I can’t bitch about that. Overall, I trust them, much more so than some of the poker programs around. :grunt:

InactiveI appreciated the letter too. And after reading it, I feel a little better about their program, trust-wise. However, I do hope they pay for tournaments soon. Tournaments usually account for about 25% of my revenues (based on other site’s stats). So, it’s basically 25% that I’m not getting paid for by Absolute.
Because of the tournament issue, I still won’t give Absolute Poker or Ultimate Bet full exposure on all my sites.

InactiveGlad I could clear it up for you. It’s definately easier to come to being a poker affiliate from being poker player rather than from being an affiliate. It’s a whole new game, even if it looks a lot like the online casino industry.
Absolute is especially bad for wacky deposit numbers because for some damn dumb reason they insist on offering 15% bonuses. Maybe if they were no cashout till cleared (like Bodog) this would be OK, but allowing players to just cycle money through the account once or twice a week to rack up more and more pending bonus is just insanity.
They also need to promote to gamboolers, their games are damn rockgardens full of people who fold 80%+ of their hands (bad for me as a player because I can’t win anywhere near as much and bad for me as an affiliate because it makes for low rake numbers).
They do good customer and affiliate support, but have some serious flaws in their business model.
I keep thinking I should give up on the affiliate game and become a poker industry consultant. Nobody listens to my rants on forums, but put me in a suit and they’ll pay good money for the same opinions (with less rhetoric and sarcasm and stuff).

InactiveGian is about as stand-up a guy as you will see in this industry. I only wish ALL affiliate managers were like him – then we wouldn’t be seeing the bullshit we are seeing elsewhere.

Inactivei have sent Gian 3 emails and no response and I know him and have done biz with him, maybe he will PM me.

InactiveStrange, Brian. I believe we both met him for the first time in Vancouver (that’s where I met you!). And you know him quite well – so I suspect he’s probably just away from his office – or else somehow the email isn’t reaching him.
