    Hi Kevin,

Goggle are always looking at things like this to make sure they are providing a good system. Their ultimate aim is to provide the most relevant site for a particular keyword search so they are always going to ensure they keep on top of sites that are out to beat their systems.

I think ultimately they will change their algorithms that regularly it will be almost impossible to be consistently in the first pages results.

So will Google ever discover this approach taken by the designer and penalize accordingly or do sites like these get rewarded with good rankings???

You need to report those type sites and they will go. If you don’t report them they will get away with it for some time.

If a few different people report it to google, the domain will disappear in a few weeks. i’ve seen it happen recently to two other domains that were doing similar things. these type of sites usually survive less than a month.

Reporting to google does work to a point. Also, if they have affiliate tags, report them to the appropriate affiliate program. Most programs will close the offender’s account.

Which Google email address would one use to report this kind of activity?

    Thanks,
    Brad

You will see if you look at any of the keywords on the links below they dont come in the top 40 for most of them.

Any site with PR can easily compete with this site. Play free poker for fun is a low level search term (1133 on Overture US last month).

If you want to compete with this site all you need to do is if one of your pages is about “play free poker for fun” – place Play Free poker for run as the site title, ensure the page is about your title (proper content!)

And you will bump your self up above this site.

why on earth would you guys bother reporting this site to either google or an affiliate program???

This is just bad SEO not a real deceptive practice.

If search engines accept it then what is the problem with it?

Why take the moral high ground?

or am I missing something :)

REsults like this example can be found in most of the search terms of Yahoo also…. same type of thing… third level domains using multiple internal linking, via keyword link stuffing at the bottom of the page….

It seems to be working, as the results have not changed for over a month

Take a look at the page. No matter which keyword you search for, it takes you to the same empire poker page. Search for “full tilt poker”, they have a page that ranks #4. The page is the same empire poker page! They also have pages for “party poker”, “absolute poker”, “pacific poker”, etc. – all pointing to the same empire poker page. I would say that’s deceptive and spammy.

The site is also using blog spamming. They’ve spammed thousands of blogs.

The google link for reporting spam is:
    http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html

If you were playing poker in a tournament with someone, and you caught him cheating, you would report him to the tournament director.

Also, it’s in the best interest of everyone long term if the search engines actually offer relevant results.

I buy the relevancy argument and that that it is OK to make a report into Google saying their algo isnt up to speed and these results really arent relevant.

On calling up an affiliate manger and saying this is spamming well I dont think any ones I have met would care. More to the point, since Empire Poker is represented by Tradal, I guess that calling them up would be impossible in any case :)

i agree that it probably wouldn’t do any good to report them to the affiliate manager. the most effective method is to report them to google.

Reporting them to Google is usually the best route, however in certain circumstances such as a website copying your content and/or site name, keywords, etc., I still think it should be reported to the affiliate program as well.

I agree. If it involves copyright infringement or theft it should be reported all around. And posted here too.

This appears to be one of the most incredible examples of black hat SEO that I’ve seen.

You don’t see the real “incredible examples” of black hat stuff. If it’s really good, no one does.

Those pages are just late 2001 seo, and ugly. I didn’t even know someone could make a font size that small.

Yeah… but if I’m using a search engine, and it isn’t giving me what I want, I use a different search engine. I can’t run around doing Google’s job for them.

If a search engine chooses to include my website in their index, I intend to do whatever I can to rise to the top of it. You can wear the whitest white hat you like… but if you change your website in ways intended to influence their results, then you’re a spammer in their eyes. Google will only pretend to be your friend as it suits them.
