I think the whole experience could be put down to a learning curve. I have a casino site, that i put loads of work into, and have not seen such amazing results, but then started a sports site a month ago that seems to be doing really well. Its about finding the specific niche in the gaming industry.
I think with things like social media, its hard to convert because of the traffic there, usually young, no looking to spend a great amount etc… PPC i think requires about a 5k budget to get going and the SEO does take the time to rank.
So learn from the mistakes and persevere. If it doesn’t work there are plenty of other niches to get involved in on the net
