Hi Rak
I’ve come across the ‘urgh’ as well, especially if you’re trying to handle everything at the same time. Everyone will probably say: Create a structured target plan and abide by it, analysing what works and what doesn’t. Sounds ideal, but it doesn’t always go down that route.
I guess you’re already doing the following, but instead off adding further top-level categories, I would break each individual one down. It baffles me how some webmaster seem to handle several projects and the elements that come with it i.e. social media. I’d be interested to find out.
Anyways, a few tips – or how I would approach it…
Sexy looking website, yes, but laid out with future changes or improvements in mind. The more content floods the site, the more ideas for improvements you should automatically come up with. If the initial site structure does leave little or no room for improvements, it will be a pain to apply any changes.
It depends how flexible you want your website (or CMS for that matter) to be. If you’re working on the project alone and you are a semi-experienced webmaster, a suggestion would be to check into software that let’s you manually create a website template and save it out for WordPress use – or another CMS potentially. It may not tick off all the boxes i.e. no template updates of course, but saves time and frees you from having to use pre-made WP templates. Then again, if you know you’re code, you’ll be laughing.
If you have the time (and patience) to do the whole social media at the same time, then give it a go. Guess that these days, without social media, it’s not even worth starting. Do you write your own news articles? These could be re-used as social media posts or consider working with someone else to cover off the odd share of work.
Also consider Google +. From what some say, it’s the ‘next thing’. YouTube is a good one. Support your content with relevant videos, it appears to me making a difference for me, but can be time consuming.
Regarding the ‘instant impact’, I believe it will take a few months before you see the first spikes in traffic. Don’t want to sound like another SEO dude, but I’d say, try keep adding up to date and good content whenever you can.
Good luck with getting out of that ‘never ending cycle of development’, maybe I made it worse.
