I tried advertising on facebook with some non-gambling ventures some time ago. I didn’t get the returns I was looking for but it was a terrible cpm model back then.
I find it really disconcerting that the facebook ads seem to be influenced by the topics of emails I send and receive in gmail.

Rak did anything ever come of your research? Did you ever start promoting on your account? There’s a fine line of pushing a link from time to time and then just plain spamming your friends and family.
Perhaps a fan page of some sort directing them to your site or displaying offers on your sites would be good.
