Yes agree completely. Text links are much better for clicks in my experience.
If you are giving the reader good quality info within text and helping them to make the decision to click it can work well.
For me that is the difference between banners and text links. Banners are to sell to someone, text links are to help them to find the right place to visit! In my experience you sell more by not selling!
