I’m not so sure that it’s due to the financial crisis as much as the model of play. To me it’s tough to sell serious poker players on the idea that there are the same hands being dealt at other tables and you could loose based on the poor (loose) play happening at another table. Poker guys like to believe it’s primarily a skill game and having the odds that much in someone elses hands takes away a lot of their edge.
Certainly the poor US economy didn’t help; but as far as other rooms struggling due to this I wouldn’t be too worried.
PS: Right now there are 79,101 players online playing real money poker; we’re ok
