To me your location of Costa Rica sounds like a very exotic place indeed. As does other gambling hotspots like Curacao, Gibraltar and Malta.

While others might classify New Zealand as a sub-tropical paradise with the snowy mountains of the Southern Alps, volcanos, sandy beaches and cheap beer as qualifying as exotic.

Europeans possibly look at Australia as exotic (based on the feedback for the potential CAP Australia) while Aussies simply consider it home.
