I believe that for first approach email/MSN are the best tools as initial contact, and with the time, pre-arrange phone calls. I always ask my affiliates to give me a date and time for me to call.
Once in a while I just send a quick “Hi” and a reminder I am always available online, even from home in case of emergency.
