unique, single-use passwords would be one possibility, possibly impractical because you’d have to email everyone individually. I’m sure it could be made to work though.
We can already create our own links to poker rooms, why not our own passwords for our own tournaments?
If a player wants to register they could email you, request a unique password and if you know they are eligible then you can send them one.
