I’m pretty sure the monopolies commission and some hefty microsoft style anti-competetive lawsuits would be brought into play if SE’s started playing this kind of game – think about it, in the future there will be virtually nothing you can’t do online and any megacorp portal offering every single one of these services would not be tolerated; Google Casino, Google Dating, Google Porn, Google Credit, Google Movies, Google Shopping, Google Music, Google Mortgage, Google Gaming… you see where I’m going with this.
They can make far more, and of course have already done so, by letting others outbid each other by ridiculous amounts for these services without getting any of the hassle that would come with such a huge business model.
And like it or not there many many people who think that this industry is seedy if not downright evil and I can’t see any major companies promoting it on their front pages.
Hey,
i disagree a little – although i agree you, you wont see google doing it that much, but you say SE’s wont be allowed to do this…… They Are already doing this
Yahoo Poker
Yahoo Dating
Yahoo Credit Cards
Yahoo Shopping
Yahoo Music
Yahoo Movies
Im sure there 100’s more Yahoo “whatever”
And yahoo is 35% or so of the US market as a search engine and Largest Webside online for visitors and noone is moaning at them.
