You have to register at wordpress.com. Once you login you will see the global dashboard (looks just like wp-admin) with just dashboard and profile tabs. Click on the profile tab and you will see “Your WordPress.com API key is: xxxxxxxxxxxx. Don’t share your API key, it’s like a password.” Your api key is also sent to your email address when you register.
