Bahamas is a tax free zone. You can gain permanent residency there if you buy a home for $500 000usd. That’s about the size of the last check I sent revenue Canada. It’s hard to get ahead with the taxes we pay in north america. I easily spend 5 times more on taxes than I do on myself.
Keep in mind once you get residency there you are in no way obligated to live there year round. I like the Bahamas for the beaches like every one else, but I much prefer the south eastern Caribbean island, as they are more volcanic in origin, and are more lush and mountainous. Unfortunately they don’t have the tax free thing. Bahamas is purely flat, same with the Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos which are the other more expensive tax havens.
If you are worried about hurricanes, why not just travel somewhere else during the short hurricane season? If I had a gf I would have become a resident there all ready, but I would find it too lonely not knowing anyone, even if I did spend 6 hours a day in the ocean.
