Case in point:

I won the Everest tournie in Amsterdam and have no idea what I am doing. I haven’t been playing enough poker to even safely know which cards I am hoping for.

Blackjack I know more about and I can play that rationally, poker I play on the seat of my pants. ( I plan to fix that! It’s a fun game.)

So the element of luck can be dominant in poker as well as any other game. Everyone at those tables was more skilled than me by a very long shot.

That said, I do believe that skill improves your CHANCE of winning a lot, and skill is a factor. Skill is also a factor in tetris or Blackjack etc. Even in slots, where the skill is more a matter of experience which teaches you when to stop, and things like playing all the lines and alternating coin values. All games are better played when you have experience and the type of skill you get from that.

The whole issue has little to do IMO with the fact that it’s bad for the entire industry to splinter up, and seperating poker from the rest of the games fragments the effort.

The same principle applies most anyplace: Together we are strong!
