I find the affiliate oriented magazines useful. Usually I find at least one thing in each that makes it worthwhile having read it, and they do get my idea juices flowing. Plus they are current.
I mean actual hardcopy magazines, like the CAP magazine, APCW, Revenue, Website magazine and the like.
Agreed, for newbies the affiliate books can be educational, but they should also definitely read the Google webmaster guidelines.
