I gave up worrying about Google a couple of years ago, that or a nervous breakdown.
Links are BS, but I have never managed to convince anyone of this. 
Google “poker podcast”…oooo I am number two and number six on yahoo! Let’s see..I have 5 outgoing links and 4 incoming or something like that.
Worry about good content and just use basic SEO IMHO.
