Of course the two industries can be compared. If the casinos in Las Vegas were interested in doing massive amounts of SEO, they’d already own Google for all 10 of the results for their lodging searches, and they don’t. There is no reason to think they’ll suddenly get interested in SEO just because online gambling becomes legal.
Will they compete in the SERP’s? Sure.
