Of the $5m only $3.75m went to Japan with the rest spread between Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Great Britain. It is an international race so I don’t know why you think it is funny that two Japanese horses took the top spots.
Why i think it’s funny that the Japs took $3.9 million of the $5 million purse
Well, Australia puts up a $5 million purse to lure some of the best horses, and those horses that come from Europe have to fly 30+ hours, adjust to the upside down hemisphere, and they almost always fail because of this, as a result it appears that the Aussie horses are good, a fact which i had always doubted, and now the Japs who have to travel much less distance, show up with a couple decent horses, not their best, and just dominate the race
This is what was funny to me, is that i was in the small minority, according to the odds, to know this fact, for a $5 million race i would expect a much classier field, and a proper set of guidelines to enter, many of those Aussie horses had no business being in this race, they just polluted the field
When i looked at the form, Delta Blues was the only real Class 1 horse in the race out of the 23 runners, and i was laughing to the bank with the 20-1 odds the Aussies were so generously giving out on him to win
And just for the record, i thought your comment was funny about the remaining $1 million and change being divided up by Aus, NZ, GB, Ire, that works out to about $250k each, and app $4 million going to the Japs…now you know the locals and Brits are just sick about that, i think that was the part that was funniest of all, perhaps in the future the Japs will be barred from competing to make sure the money stays in the familia
