I think they can/will play a role. I bet poker players are the “don’t vote much” crowd. They probably don’t like being told what to do in their own home, and a bunch of them might vote on that one issue.
If it’s lost in all of the other noise, then that sentiment will be attributed to other things. No one will notice, and thus there will be no pressure for representatives to change anything. There’s a lot of noise out there that is more exciting. Nobody will be pointing fingers at incumbents regarding the issue.
Sad, that it’s a fundamental issue about what people do in their own homes with their own money. Are people citizens or subjects? I was always taught that people were citizens, but everything I study tells me they are subjects.
