The first poker site i ever did was this freehosted Bravenet piece of junk, i was just figuring out how to add banners, etc
When it came time to publish my one page masterpiece, i forgot about choosing a name, and needed to decide on one quickly, cuz i was anxious to see my work, this was all new to me back then
Anyway, the default title was “blank page”, so i just changed “blank” to “poker”, since the more obvious “poker” and “onlinepoker”, etc were taken, so i settled on “pokerpage”, since thats what it was, made sense, so my url was pokerpage.bravehost.com(no longer in existence)
Who comes raging on me, a la Dom here, pokerpages.com
The girl from pokerpages.com is sending me e-mails telling me i have to change the name of my site, my reaction was, “wtf is up with u chicky, are u serious”, i mean u gotta be kidding me, i had never even heard of pokerpages.com back then, and this lady is givin me the bizness
There was no way i could consider her as anything more than a fool
I suggested she go after pokerpages.net, .info, .us, and all the other dots out there using her name
I tried to explain how rediculous she was, thinking that u could own the name “poker” in some variation as exclusively your own, especially with the 100 million + poker sites out there
Thats not to say i’m comparing this situation with Dom’s, but lets say for example, i saw the name Dominique here, and liked it, then decided to name my kid Dominique, would u sue me for it, i mean it’s your name and you were born first
Seriously Dom, if your madness prevailed, this world would be hell
We’d have the poker.com guy sueing the poker.net guy, 32red suing 32vegas over the number 32, Main street suing Main street in every major North American city, donut makers suing cruller and tidbit makers, it would never end, France would sue America for use of colours Red, White, and Blue in their flag, Ford would sue every car manufacturer on the planet since they invented the first car, and so on
Tesla sued Marconi over the invention of the radio and won, although Marconi was originally given the honour and held it for several years, so you might have some hope
