I saw a report about the new .mobi domain on CNN yesterday. The guy who owns British insurance spends 200,000 GBP a year to reserve variations of his domain name in order to protect himself from typo squatters. I´m not sure that is worth it but it can obviously be done on a much smaller scale in most cases.
