Hey Back in 52,
I’d like to ask you a question. Why would it be so important to you to have your site listed in DMOZ?

Do you believe you will get more traffic?
Do you believe you will rank higher on serp’s?
Do you believe gamblers will go look for your site in DMOZ instead of simply perform a search on a major se?

DMOZ is an irrelevant, clumsy and one of the most unuseful monument that shows how much progress has been made since the times DMOZ was relevant.

I had sites in DMOZ, looking back.. it was never worth the effort.. i have actually made more money from my other sites that were not listed there than the sites that did.

DMOZ listing will not get you more traffic nor get your sites rank higher on serp’s

The only realistic gain is maybe a PR boost… but you can gain that from link trades just as well.

My advice, focus your efforts on more productive strategies other than “follow the herd”

Thank you everyone for your responses. M.D., The only reason i was trying to get on there was to get a higher pagerank and get a better chance of being indexed more often by google since i heard google and other search engines take DMOZ listings a priority over non DMOZ listed sites. The thing is that I’ve tried basically everything I could from optimizing my pages and linking over the past 15 months and still i get one or two visitors a day. This guy I was telling you about started up his site in a matter of weeks and got on DMOZ and his site is a cash cow. Basically he gets about half the number of visitors I ever got in one day on his site and is making tons of money and depositors each day. His site looks like crap and there is no where near the quality of content and look of my site. I dont know how he did it but I know he got on DMOZ and I have a feeling that was the key since because I’ve done just about everything except get on DMOZ.

I lost my bookmarks so I don’t have his site on me right now since i heard about it a few months ago but I knew the guy. He definitly wasn’t a blackhat SEO because he barely knows HTML and he may not even know SEO at all. I asked him what he did and he doesn’t know, he says it all happened by ‘accident’ which i think is BS since I’ve worked very hard on my site for the past 15 months with no increase in traffic and I hired a professional SEO to at least help me out on this problem in case im doing something wrong, maybe not get #1 in google but at least get more than 1 visitor a day and still nothing has happened, the only thing new is i made my site much bigger and looks like a classy beautiful site (at least to me) and I have more content along with even better SEO than before. It’s been months since these new improvements and still no traffic, if anything, the traffic has fallen from my 2 visitors a day to sometimes no visitors a day. Thats why I think DMOZ has something to do with it since its the last thing i haven’t tried. I exchanged links with a PR 5 site and a few other big ones about 7 months ago and my PR is still 1 so link exchanges dont help. Yahoo doesn’t allow gambling sites (even though i see gambling sites in their directory), I’m already in many small free directories and search engines. I am indexed by google and all the other search engines too, so I’m not banned.

I don’t know what else to do, I’m on the point of just giving up, all the work going into it just isn’t paying off. I tried just about everything, is there anything else I didn’t mention that could be the key to getting better traffic? There has got to be some kind of secret or thing I’m not doing right. Anyone can PM me if you want to take a look at my site and try to figure out what is preventing it from getting any traffic, I would really appreciate it.
