DMOZ listing will not get you more traffic nor get your sites rank higher on serp’s
The only realistic gain is maybe a PR boost… but you can gain that from link trades just as well.
The thing about DMOZ is that it creates two additional listings for your site. One in the Google directory and one on DMOZ. The other added benefit is the fact that DMOZ allows anyone to pull from their directories which creates many more links across the web. I myself, pull from DMOZ on my site for my casino directory.
It has its pros and cons. If it was “easy” to get listed in DMOZ I think everyone would be submitting. Most of the people that aren’t in DMOZ arent’ in there because they didn’t want to be, but because they “couldn’t” be.
No, its not an absolute necessity to be listed with them, but I have seen sites get a whole point in PR boost that are and some that don’t get any at all. It depends.
I knock them myself simply because I think their management and system sucks, not because I didn’t want to be in there.
