Reply To: How Many Link Requests Do You Get?

I have become increasingly jaded with link exchanges over the years. I ignore most emails now, expecting people to instead submit via the submission forms I place on my sites for that purpose. I used to reply to every submission, letting the submitter know their site was approved (and where it could be found) or explaining why it was rejected. There was a time when I thought a person taking the time to submit a link to my site deserved my taking the time to personally reply. Not anymore…

I still drop an email to those that get approved, but rampant abuse, garbage link submissions, offset exchanges with throw-away domains linking to me, submit bots generating 100s of 500 errors daily as they try to post directly to my DB and every other crap tactic under the sun have so thoroughly pissed me off that most submissions are seen through jaded lenses.

I can’t help it. It doesn’t even feel like a case of the few screwing things up for the many anymore. It feels more like 90% of the sites that want links are morons that I really don’t want to do business with.

No solution, sorry, just the rant today…

And to whomever is running that idiot bot, call the thing off! Your submissions aren’t even getting through, so I couldn’t approve them if I wanted to, so stop wasting the bandwidth! At least get a static IP, so I can block you without blocking everyone running Windows ’98!!!

Gah! :cuss:
