I can comment on the blogs. I have high PR backlinks from blogs which does certainly help. But do it carefully and don´t spam. Add useful comments. Make sure that the blog could draw visitors that may convert. I.e. I posted in a blog post that discussed licking toads which gave me a PR 4 backlink but I am not sure wether this necessarily helped in terms of SEO, conversions. :wink-wink
