I think it’s really important to point out that Carruthers has not been arrested. He was detained, which is a rather big distinction.
It’s easy to jump to the conclusion that this was politically motivated, however, this has not been made known to be fact. This may very well have been a random situation, having nothing to do with online gaming.
Regardless, Carruthers is one of the brightest minds of this industry and it’s a no-brainer that he will use this situation to call further mainstream media attention to what is happening in the US.
You’re right, we don’t know, but sad to say, it’s not that far of a leap to make these assumptions regarding the actions of the DOJ. I truly hope we’re wrong.
I’m glad to know David is a person that would consider ways to make this situation work for the industry but the DOJ uses a huge money stick and he does have a responsibility to his shareholders, which the DOJ would know and take advantage of (as evidenced by the down turn of stock prices of BetonSports and PartyGaming after this news broke)
We should know soon enough I guess. By the way, I saw his wife was allowed to leave, but I’m assuming he’s still being detained. Has anyone heard otherwise?
