Basically, the response from targeted CD lists you should be very happy with a 5% conversion, but this always depends on the quality. I have heard of an average of $5000 average player values on CD drops, but very targeted and pricey to send – of course a whale or two helps to push that value up.
General rule of thumb – pamphlet ditribution: 1 – 1.5%, CD’s can expect the same if untargeted, and can expect north of 5% on very targeted lists if the offer is right and well presented. Getting away with $1 on a cd will probably give you a poor product (no offense!) that will get trashed before even being opened. To send properly you will have to pay close to $2 per unit, nicely packaged and NCOA’ed to give you better targeting.
That said, I would be willing to test lists with affiliates – bear in mind that costs will have to be split (or clawed back) as it is not a cheap date to test, and the way we set our sends up we do not gain access to your information – you deal with a reputable mail house that is well known in this industry.
