Did you download another anti virus program? Sometimes this pnenomena can occur when two programs conflict. If so, use safe mode and delete if possible. Could try system restore back date it for 3 days. If it still persists I still have few ideas.
For msconfig you could try under general click Diagnostic startup and reboot and see if your system is stable. greek39
