They go for the young, weak or small. Unless very hungry, then they can get desperate and “stupid”.
But by instinct are shy and prey on weakness.
Could be well be attracted by puppy noises, and could be friendly or hungry interest there.
I would not let my dogs interact with wild wolves. ( and I have Great Danes)
