The current deal you have worked out with him is an iffy one. It’s hard to say “work for something that you can’t see within reach just yet!” And have them continually motivated.
Have weekly coffee outings to discuss the website – that motivates me and a few other affiliates I know. (Hey, you can write them off as a business expense. The outings being business meetings and all!)
Okay, I guess he’s sort of both, but more of a web developer. He wrote all the code for the database and all the pages, and I told him what i wanted to layout to look like, roughly, and he put it together, then I said “now change this…” and he did it. That sort of thing. Anyway, he lives in Edmonton and I live in Calgary, so coffee is not an option. What you’re saying about the ‘wrok for something you can’t see yet…’ is exactly the reason I offered him a share of the profits, as he had originally offered to do it for free, just wanted to use it for his portfolio. Anyway, I’m optimistic that he’ll be more motivated in January. If he’s not, maybe I’ll offer him some money for time already invested and then offer to pay him an hourly rate going forward, then I would be able to ‘expect’ things of him, instead of relying on hope and his personal motivation.
