.cc is for the Cocos Islands but its one of them thats became quite popular, like .tv. Trillian for example runs off http://www.trillian.cc rather than com. But like all non dot.com domains, type-in potential is virtually zero. the thing that made cc and tv quite popular was the fact that after .com, they are easier to build into branding campaigns than most other tlds.
